Development of Dutch GFLI datasets

The Dutch Feed Industry Association represents the interests of its members, 90 animal feed producers. Blonk has updated the Nevedi Carbon Footprint list with animal feed ingredients. This ingredient list is extensively used by the Dutch dairy industry, since the calculated feed impacts are used as input for the Kringloopwijzer. The Nevedi Carbon Footprint list allows to be easily used on a harmonized method by Nevedi members and follows GLFI wherever possible.

Methodological exploration by Blonk and DSM

Together with DSM we set up a methodological study, by way of road testing, to explore the applicability of sector Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) guidelines, such as FAO LEAP and European Commission Product Environmental Footprint (EC PEF). In APS-footprint we modeled nutritional interventions, specifically the use of feed additives, and explored the effects. The study was externally reviewed by experts, according to the ISO 14044 LCA guidelines.

Agri-footprint

Developed by Merieux Nutrisciences | Blonk, Agri-footprint is world's leading source of high-quality, reliable and consistent secondary database for the agri-food sector. It covers data on food, feed, and agricultural intermediate products covering over 4800+ products and processes.

GFLI database

The Global Feed LCA Institute (GFLI) is an independent organization that focuses on developing a publicly available Animal Nutrition Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) database. Their database contains high-quality datasets for animal feed ingredients. The GFLI database is the leading international source of LCA information on animal feed production and contributes to making the sector more sustainable.

The GFLI database contains environmental impact data on raw feed materials from different geographical areas, comprising regional, sectoral, and branded data. Our Agri-footprint LCA database is the primary source for regional data. Sectoral and branded data are added with every update, continuously expanding the database with the ultimate goal of improving the feed industry's environmental performance.

Blonk developed the Agri-footprint database to provide a thorough and consistent life cycle inventory (LCI) database, which is required to advance sustainability in the agriculture and food sector.

Agri-footprint covers data on food, feed and agricultural intermediate products. The database facilitates transparency and enables key actors in the food system to reduce their environmental impact.
